Conceptual : the Vine

Scroll

‘The Vine’ is a conceptual montage of images documenting and emulating the vine that used to grow on the facade of 401 Spadina Street in Toronto.

The vine had been growing on this building for decades, firmly establishing it’s structure on the brick work as its branches meandered the buildings face. Over time, the branches had defied gravity, crossing the smooth surface of the windows to find secure contact points as it grew skywards.

In this installation, I have reenvisioned the vine using select images. They hang at varying distances away from the wall, at times overlapping, so that each ‘leaf’ can move with the breeze created - in this case - by viewers and passers by.

“The Vine’ was part of ‘On Process and Practice’, a group show in the Gallery 44 Process Gallery.
